Family eye care
Good vision is essential to daily life, and caring for your eyes is one of the best investments you can make for your health. At De Jongh Optometry, we provide comprehensive eye care for the whole family — from babies’ first check-ups to ongoing care for adults and seniors.
Regular eye exams are important, even if you don’t notice any vision changes. Many eye conditions, like glaucoma or early diabetes-related issues, show no symptoms at first but can be detected and treated early through routine screenings.
During your visit, our friendly optometrists will:
- Check your vision clarity and prescription needs
- Assess eye coordination, depth, and colour vision
- Examine the overall health of your eyes, including screening for conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration
We recommend annual eye exams to keep your vision clear and your eyes healthy — and we’re here whenever something doesn’t feel quite right.
Your family’s vision matters to us, and we’re committed to helping you see life clearly at every age.
Neuro-optometry
Your vision depends on more than just your eyes — it’s a partnership between your eyes and your brain. After a concussion, stroke, or other brain injury, this connection can be disrupted, leading to problems like blurred or double vision, light sensitivity, dizziness, or difficulty focusing and reading.
Our neuro-optometry service helps retrain the brain and eyes to work together again.
After a detailed visual and neurological assessment, we create a personalised treatment plan that may include:
- Specialised lenses or prisms to improve clarity, depth perception, and balance
- Vision therapy to strengthen coordination between the eyes and brain
- Gentle rehabilitation techniques to reduce dizziness, headaches, and visual fatigue
Our neuro-optometric optometrists, Deidre de Jongh and Carina Janzen, work closely with other healthcare professionals to support your recovery and improve your quality of life.
If you’ve noticed changes in your vision after a concussion, stroke, or head injury, we’re here to help you see — and feel — better again.
Vision therapy for children
Many children who struggle with reading, writing, or focusing in class may also have underlying vision problems that make learning harder. Our practice offers comprehensive eye assessments to help identify whether visual challenges could be contributing to learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD, or visual processing issues.
If needed, we create a personalised vision therapy plan to help the eyes and brain work better together.
These sessions use fun, interactive exercises and activities that improve:
- Eye focus and tracking
- Hand-eye coordination
- Visual processing and attention
Vision therapy can help children feel more confident in the classroom, reduce frustration, and make reading and learning more enjoyable.
Children’s vision
It’s never too early to look after your child’s eyes. Healthy vision plays a big role in learning, development, and confidence — which is why regular eye exams are so important from infancy right through the teen years.
At De Jongh Optometry, we offer gentle, thorough children’s eye exams to check eye health, vision, and development at every stage. Our goal is to detect any concerns early — when they’re easiest to treat — and to make every visit comfortable and positive for your child.
We look for common childhood eye conditions like:
- Amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (eye turn)
- Refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism
- Computer vision strain and other screen-related issues in older children and teens
We also offer expert guidance on glasses and contact lenses for kids, helping them choose frames they’ll love and feel confident wearing.
From baby’s first eye check to a teen’s screen-time habits, we’re here to support your child’s vision every step of the way — so they can see the world clearly and reach their full potential.
Dry eye care
If your eyes often feel dry, irritated, or tired, you may be experiencing dry eye syndrome. This happens when your eyes don’t produce enough quality tears to keep them comfortably moisturised.
Our dry eye service is designed to help you find lasting relief. We start by identifying what’s causing your symptoms and then create a treatment plan that works for you.
Depending on your needs, this may include:
- Gentle steam therapy to open blocked tear glands and improve comfort
- Specialised eye drops, such as Optiserum, which help heal and hydrate the eyes naturally
- At-home care with products like Zienna frames and Bruder masks to soothe and protect your eyes
Our goal is to help your eyes feel refreshed, comfortable, and healthy again — every day.
SPECIALIZED CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses are a comfortable, flexible way to see clearly — whether you wear them every day, just for sport, or on special occasions. Our optometrists offer comprehensive contact lens exams and fittings to make sure your lenses feel great, fit perfectly, and suit your lifestyle.
During your contact lens consultation, we’ll:
- Check your overall eye health and vision prescription
- Take precise measurements to ensure the best lens fit and comfort
- Discuss your lifestyle to help you choose between daily, monthly, soft, or gas permeable lenses
- Provide guidance on lens care and hygiene
If you’ve been told before that contact lenses aren’t right for you, we can help.
We specialise in custom fittings for hard-to-fit eyes, including conditions like:
- Astigmatism
- Dry eyes
- Presbyopia (age-related focus changes)
For more complex needs, we offer advanced options such as:
- Scleral lenses – ideal for sensitive eyes or irregular corneas, offering exceptional comfort and clarity
- Ortho-K lenses – worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea, giving you clear vision during the day without lenses or glasses
Whether you’re new to contact lenses or exploring more specialised options, our team will guide you every step of the way — so you can see clearly and comfortably.
